KING OF COURT RULES

A copy of the Rules and Waiver form is available in Student Services Center.

The completed team roster, dues and signed waiver forms should be returned to

Student Services Center by March 4, 2008 

Rules for King of the Court Volleyball Tournament-Central High School
March 2008

1.  Teams will be composed of  MALE high school students, grades 9-12. 
Team size is minimum of 6 and maximum of  8 players. 
No more than 6 players on court during play but no minimum number in order to play.

2.  Teams will have a  high school girl for their coach.
Only the coach may talk with referee during the game.  Practices are arranged by coaches.

3.  The tournament will be pool play.  Best 2 out of  3 wins the match.  First two sets will be rally scoring to 25, win by 2 with cap at 30.  Third set, if needed, will be rally scoring to 15, win by 2, no cap.  Winner of pool play will play Lady Cats Varsity Volleyball team for coveted title of  “King of  the Court”. 

4.  A coin toss will determine who serves first. 
Serves can only be made after referee whistles for serve. 
A serve will count even if the ball hits and goes over the net on a serve. 
All serves must be hit with one hand and can not be thrown or pushed over.

5.  Players must remain in their position until server makes contact with the ball.

6.  It is illegal to block a serve or make contact with an opponent or the ball above or below the net over the opponent’s area before or during the opponent’s attack hit.

7.  Each team has a maximum of three hits of the ball in order to return to opponent’s play area.  A player may not contact the ball with two or more consecutive hits. 
The ball may contact any part of the body but must be hit cleanly and not held.

8.  Substitutions can only be made in and out of the serving position.
Substitutions are made after the ball is dead and before the referee whistles for the serve. 
There will be no limit on number of subs but permission does  have to be granted by referee. 

9.  Insignificant contact with the net by a player is not a fault unless it is made during the act of playing the ball or it interferes with the play.

10.  Encroachment into the opponent’s court with feet or hands is permitted  as long as some part of the extremity remains in contact with the center line and there is no interference with the opponents.

11.  Teams may have one 60 second time out per game.

12.  Proper attire including shirt, shorts and tennis shoes shall be worn.

13.  All contestants shall sign release form in order to compete- see back of  this form.

    Team size is minimum of 6 and maximum of  8 players. 
Must be equal number of boys to girls, ie 3 boys and 3 girls or 4 girls and 4 boys.
No more than 6 players on court during play but no minimum number in order to play.

2.  Teams will have a  high school girl for their coach.
Only the coach may talk with referee during the game.  Practices are arranged by coaches.

3.  The tournament will be pool play.  Best 2 out of  3 wins the match.  First two sets will be rally scoring to 25, win by 2 with cap at 30.  Third set, if needed, will be rally scoring to 15, win by 2, no cap.  Winner of pool play will play Maidens Varsity Volleyball team for coveted title of  “King of  the Court”.

I agree to follow the rules and regulations of the “King of the Court” volleyball tournament as noted on the back of this form.

I understand that the referee may issue a warning or eject  any player, coach or spectator that exhibits inappropriate behavior including but not limited to foul language, arguing,  disrespectful motions or comments, or flagrant disregard for the rules.

If I fail to adhere to the rules, I understand that I may be removed from the game and the tournament.  I also understand that Central and Lake View High Schools are not responsible for any accidental injury that may occur and that I am covered by my parent’s insurance carrier.
